    Description

The Confederacy was short of everything except courage in the Civil War, and many soldiers carried locally made bowie knives for their last line of personal defense. These varied in size and quality, from massive "D" guard fighters to "Arkansas toothpicks" and smaller dirks and daggers. Along with a "butternut" jacket, mouth full of corn pone, and the "Rebel yell", a bowie knife thrust through the belt came to symbolize the hard fighting Southern soldier of the Civil War. Those iconic bowies have been of great interest to collectors for decades, leading Jack Melton, Josh Phillips, and John Sexton to write an authoritative reference book on the subject in 2012. This "CONFEDERATE BOWIE KNIVES" CIVIL WAR CSA FIGHTING DAGGER CUTLASS REFERENCE BOOK is in near mint, unread condition, with only some light scattered storage wear evident (most pictured). Otherwise, the book is in near mint shape, with no other damage. Most interestingly, it boasts an elegantly illustrated dust jacket over hardcovers, and sports 279 pages full of descriptive text, period pictures, and color photographs of Confederate bowie knives by such famous makers as Boyle & Gamble, Cooper Iron Works, Thomas Leech & Co., and Louis Froehlich, among others, as well as unidentified factory knives, home made bowies by Wheat & Vandalson, W.G. Simmons, and G.W. Stalans, among others, unidentified home made knives, relic bowies, and a plethora of other invaluable information. A beautiful example of a "CONFEDERATE BOWIE KNIVES" CIVIL WAR CSA FIGHTING DAGGER CUTLASS REFERENCE BOOK. Now celebrating over 20 years on eBay.
