    This sword is the 1840 artillery. It
    is an unmarked Ames type 1 artillery sword. This style of sword is documented in Thillmans book " Civil War Cavalry and Artillery sabers. " It is 37 " overall with a 32 " blade. The blade has some light age staining. The grip is in near perfect condition. The hilt and scabbard has a nice smooth dark brown age patina. Artillery swords are getting rare I have priced this one very low.
