Description
Very Rare Hassam Boston Bowie dagger found in the 1970ties in the town of OURTEVILLE Belgium in this state. The German 2nd Panzer Division penetrated Belgium in 1944 for 25 miles until it was stopped in this exact village during the battle of the bulge. This dagger was given to a villager after helping a US tank crew member after being wounded during the battle. the damage on the pummel is claimed to be battle damage. The story has no impact on my asking price. It was in a private collection untill this moment.
Frederick Fitch Hassam war the founding father of his own company from 1853 untill 1856, producing all kinds of edged instruments.
From 1856 untill 1860 the company became Kingsman & Hassam with a partner.
From 1861 they opended a store in Washington Street and became Hassam Brothers as Roswell H Hassam joined the company.
They stayed in business untill the great Boston fire destoyed the building in 1872.
Selling it as is so please rate this dagger by the pictures available, additional pictures can be provided.
After carefull consideration and reseach I have concluded that the stamping in 100% original but the handle might be a replacement and the blade has been reshaped/ resharpened.
Referance stamp can be found on a breech of a prototype musket rifle seen on the website of Faganarms.com, a legitimate independant sourse.
A very special restauration project way past my expertise but a must as this dagger will not survive another 170 years.
