    Description

US Civil War Model 1860 Staff & Field Sword with Scabbard. Ricasso is marked with an "H" inside a shield, a little above that in the etchings is "Horstmann" over "Philadelphia". The guard, grip, and pommel cap all move a tiny bit if you force them, otherwise they are tight. The grip shows some wear and is 95% complete. The twisted wire and both strands of straight wire are complete. The fixed clamshell has the typical eagle with flags on it on one side and the folding side is blank. The knuckleguard is a little deformed. The etched blade is straight, a few very minor nicks, unsharpened, has an even patina, the last 5" has some with very light pitting and minor surface rust on the last 2 1/2". The scabbard is solid with no dents but is missing the throat piece, has pitting with some surface rust scattered throughout, and has a slight bend. The washer is missing. Length of the blade measures 28 15/16" (5/8" wide x 3/16" thick), length of the sword is 35 15/16", and overall in the scabbard it is 36 1/2".
