US Civil War Model 1840 Ames Type I Artillery Sword-Saber w/Scabbard-Dated 1854

Description

US Civil War Model 1840 Ames Mfg Co. Type I Artillery Sword with Scabbard. The ricasso is marked "Ames Mfg Co" over "Chicopee" and "Mass" on one side and "US" over "A.D.K." over "1854" on the other. The grip and guard are tight, the leather wrap is 95% complete and the twisted wire wrap is also complete. The pommel cap is faintly marked "JWP" and ADK". The blade has been shortened by about 1 1/2", it has been sharpened and has age spots with light pitting scattered throughout. The scabbard is solid, has one dent on the drag, and there a three cut slits on the lip of the mouth. The leather washer is missing. Length of the blade is 30 1/2" (1 5/16" wide and 3/8" thick), the sword is 35 1/2", and in the scabbard it is 38 7/8".
