    Description

    U
    S Civil War
    James Conning Alabama Confederate
Cavalry Sword with Scabbard. The ricasso is marked "James Conning" over "Mobile.". The guard and grip are gone. The blade is much better than the scabbard but has been more recently sharpened unfortunately (very sharp),
the tip is also very sharp
, no nicks, it has age spots with light pitting scattered throughout, and there is a slight bend about 5" up from the tip.
    The scabbard
is solid but has seen better days,
the seam has opened from top to bottom, the lower hanger mount is gone, the drag is also gone, has a few dents, it has a bend to it,
and has light surface rust with pitting scattered throughout. Length of the blade is 34 1/16" (1 1/4" wide and 3/8" thick), the sword is 40 3/8", and in the scabbard it is 42 1/2". The tang alone is 5 11/16". Far from perfect but a very rare original piece! Supposedly only 500 Cavalry pieces were ever made. From a Kentucky estate.
