Pre-Civil War Model 1833 Ames Cutler Dragoon Sword Saber - Dated 1837

Description

Pre-Civil War Model 1833 N.P. Ames Cutler Dragoon Saber. The ricasso is marked "N.P. Ames" over "Cutler" over "Springfield" over "1837". The quillon is faintly marked "W.S." (William Smith). The brass knuckle guard is a bit misshapen. The grip and guard are tight. The grip has about 60% of the leather remaining but the wire wrap is completely gone and there is a piece of the grip missing up by the pommel. The pipe backed blade has "United States" on it, overall it is straight, has an even dark patina, the lower half looks and feels lightly sharpened with some nicks, there is also some light pitting with minor surface rust scattered throughout. The leather washer is intact. No scabbard. Length of the blade is 34 1/4" (1 1/8" wide and 3/8" thick) and the sword overall is 39 5/8".
