    Description

Pre-Civil War Era French Model 1845/55 Officers Sword.
The ricasso has an "S" inside a shield stamp, a faint "B" with a star or crown over it inside an oval, and the spine has some French script that indicates it was made by Klingenthal. The grip is worn down to the wood, there is a couple small chips missing above the guard. The twisted wire is 100% complete. The  guard and pommel are loose.
    The etched blade
has floral and scroll designs, it
is straight, feels sharpened, the tip is sharp, has some light surface rust scattered throughout, pitting to the blade edge and in a few other areas but not as bad. W
asher is missing. No scabbard. Length of the blade is 29 1/4" (1 1/8" wide and 5/16" thick), and the sword overall is 34 5/8".
