  • Condition: Appears to be in good condition considering its age. The blade is in good condition with a few minor rust spots. The scabbard is in sound condition with one small dent and rust spots. Please view pictures to see condition.

    Description

    ORIGINAL MEXICAN REPUBLIC ARMY MODEL 1822 CAVALRY SABER with scabbard circa 1835-1846. In the style of the US Model 1840 cavalry sabers. With Mexico "Liberty Cap" with rays of the sun logo or RM marking on the blade's ricasso. On the reverse ricasso is marked AC over Mexico. This saber is very similar to AMES sabers, maybe made by them? There is a piece of old fabric tape on the scabbard that reads - "BATTLE OF AGUA PRIETA 11/1/1915". This pertains to the second battle of Agua Prieta. It was fought between the forces of Pancho Villa and those of the future President of Mexico, Plutarco Elias Calles. Villa's attack on the town was repulsed by Calles. Blade length is 33 inches, overall length with scabbard is 40 inches.
    I am not a sword expert. The description above may not be accurate but I have tried to do my best in researching this. I have inherited about 10 swords that I will be listing on eBay.
