Description

Here is an original Civil War Union infantry officer's sword, complete with leather scabbard.  The scabbard is made of modern leather (early 1980s) and original Civil War brass hardware.  The sword is not dinged-up in any way and is made of high quality steel.  There are decorations etched into each side of the blade, including a large "U.S
" on one side and "E Pluribus Unum" on the other.  I cannot find any manufacturer markings.  The blade itself is 31 1/4 inches long.  The pommel adds another 5 1/2 inches.  The leather grip is in fine condition.  The scabbard is 32 inches long.  The blade shows a few age marks, but nothing major.  The sword goes into the scabbard but it stops with about one inch of blade showing (see the last photo.)  It didn't do this when I had it made in the 1980s -- I'm sure a leather expert can fix it.   All in all, a really nice piece, and much better quality than the cheap, soft steel imitations made overseas.
