Up for bids is this model 1832 Civil war era
Artillery Short sword. Most likely Ames Company Massachusetts. Found
during a pre demolition survey of a house in Waterbury Ct. in 1967. The
oxidation on the blade has rendered the marks illegible but there are faint
marks present if viewed under a loupe. Triple fuller indicates it is not a
Confederate produced item. Has the eagle with shield and olive branch on both
sides of a peened pommel. Has 3 rivet fish scale grip with an unmarked
hilt. Triple fuller swelled gladiator style blade shows oxidation and many edge
chips Overall length is 25 1/8" with the handle being 6 3/16" long.
