The History:  The First Marine Amphibious Corps (I MAC) was established on October 1
    st
, 1942 and arrived in the South Pacific to begin coordinating plans for the attack on
    Guadalcanal
.  In June, I MAC components opened the New Georgia Campaign at
    Viru
    Harbor
    , Bangunu and on
    Rendova
    Island
.  They landed on Vella La Vella during this campaign.  The next campaign run by I MAC was
    Bougainville
, which began on October 27, 1943.  By the end of this campaign, early 1944, the First Marine Amphibious Corps had isolated the remaining Japanese forces in the
    Solomon Islands
.  Corps elements next landed in the
    Green
    Islands
and established fighter bases which could reach the
    Bismarck Archipelago
.  I MAC then landed in the
    Bismarck Archipelago
and established bases on Emirau and other islands in the St. Matthias Group.  On April 15, 1944, the support elements of I MAC were transferred to Administrative Command and the tactical elements were redesignated III Amphibious Corps.
Two Aviation Engineer Battalions were assigned to I MAC.  The 1
    st
    arrived at
    Noumea
    ,
    New Caledonia
in September of 1942 and was attached to the 1
    st
Marine Aircraft Wing.  It participated in the capture and defense of
    Guadalcanal
from October 10, 1942 through February 8, 1943.  In April of 1944, the battalion was assigned to III Amphibious Corps.  The 2
    nd
Battalion was assigned to I MAC in October of 1942.  It landed on
    Guadalcanal
on January 31, 1943 and worked on Koli Bomber I and II airfields as well as several other engineering projects.  It was transferred to III Amphibious Corps before it left for
    Guam

Some of these patches have been used. If an item is listed as used it may be sewn on, have some dirt on it or have loose threads. I try not to post items with excessive wear because I want you to get good quality items. I try to post good photos of each item but they get shrunk down when they appear in the listing. If you have any questions about condition, please ask me. I can email you the original photo and can make larger scans if you give me enough time. Please ask. I will be happy to give you as much information as I can about an item so that you can make an informed decision about the item before bidding.
