Ships are the common theme on a new series of thematic coins on the 20-krone coin.
The series consists of 12 coins. The motifs are different ship types selected to widely cover the history of Danish navigation.
On 22 September 2008 Danmarks Nationalbank issued a new 20-krone coin with the Royal Yacht Dannebrog as its motif.
This is the fifth coin with a ship as motif.
The coin was presented to Her Majesty the Queen on board the Royal Yacht in Copenhagen on 18 September 2008.
The Royal Yacht Dannebrog was built in 1931-1932 at the Naval Dock-yard in Copenhagen and was launched in 1932. The yacht serves as the official and private residence of Her Majesty the Queen, His Royal Highness the Prince Consort and members of the Royal Family when they are on summer cruises in Danish waters and on official visits over-seas.
In addition to the ordinary circulation coins, a very limited number of collector's coins, only 1.500 have been minted in the very fine PROOF quality. Furthermore, the ship coin has also been issued as a 500-krone coin in fine silver (0.999 Ag) in a edition of maximum 60.000 coins. Besides the Royal Yacht, this edition includes the monogram of Her Majesty Queen Margrethe.
Technical specifications
The 20 Kroner coin is made of Aluminum-Bronze. The coin has a diameter of 27.0 mm, weights 9.3 g, a thickness of 2,35 mm and has a rim with interrupted milling.
