Civil War Model 1852 USN US Navy-Naval Officers Etched Sword+Sharkskin Scabbard

Description

Civil War Model 1852 USN Naval Officers Etched Sword with Sharkskin Scabbard. The ricasso is marked with a "9" and the blade Has "W.H. Horstmann & Sons" over "Philadelphia" on it. The spine is marked "Iron Proof". The brass guard, pommel cap, and grip are all tight. The sharkskin grip is 85% complete and the twisted wire is 100% complete. The beautifully etched blade has a "U.S.N." in a ribbon design and another "U.S.N." on a flag on the reverse side, there are also anchors, an eagle standing on a cannon and other designs. The blade is straight, tight, has not been sharpened, the tip is a little sharp, no nicks, it is mostly clean except for a few age spots scattered around, and there is a little light pitting on the last 6" by the tip. Leather
washer is intact.
The sharkskin scabbard is solid with only a little minor surface loss at the seam

Length of the blade measures 27 1/8" (1 1/8" wide x 5/16" thick), length of the sword is 32 15/16", and overall in the scabbard it is also 36 7/8". Beautiful piece with minor defects!
