CIVIL WAR CONFEDERATE SMALL SIDE KNIFE NOT SWORD WITH ORIGINAL LEATER SCABBARD CIRCA 1862.
Purchased in  Virginia at a country estate sale, this 9.5” overall knife with a 5” double edged spear point blade is in excellent condition overall.  The walnut grip has a German silver applique and the upper throat mount is likewise German silver.  The drag is long gone.  The original leather scabbard has a seam split on the rear as shown but is otherwise very solid overall.  The blade is very sharp and very bright.  This is most likely a locally crafted item and not factory made and is a classic sideknife of the era.
