Civil War Collins & Co. Model 1840 NCO Sword w/Scabbard - 1861

Description

US Civil War Model 1840 NCO Sword with Partial Scabbard.
The ricasso is marked with an arched "Collins & Co", over a straight "Hartford" over "Conn" and on the reverse "1861". There are no other markings
.
The brass guard and grip are tight. The knuckle guard and clamshells have some small nicks and scratches.
The blade
is straight, unsharpened, the tip is a little sharp, a few very minor nicks along the edge, and there are age spots throughout with light surface rust. The scabbard is solid, the stitching is tight but the leather shows wear with some surface loss and a couple inches are missing, the drag is also missing.
W
asher is 80% intact. Length of the blade is 32" (7/8" wide and 5/16" thick) and overall the sword is 38 3/8".
1 of only 648 pieces (most dated 1862).
Thillmanns' Civil War Army Swords book (pages 202+203) states the separately dated
Collins & Co NCO swords are
believed to be the very rare U.S. Government purchased NCO swords.

nes dated 1861 are considered extremely scarce and
with arched company name
(typically found on the 1862 dated swords), makes this even more rare!
