    Description

    A very well informed Collector of Historical Americana
    has graciously conveyed
    some well needed data;
    The scabbard is for an 1873 Trapdoor rifle 45/70.
    EARLY
    SOCKET BAYONET with INTACT LEATHER BELT SHEATH
    FOR AN 1873 "TRAPDOOR" RIFLE 45/70.
    THAT BEING SAID; A RARE FIND IN THIS  EXCELLENT
    CONDITION!
    THE LEATHER LOOP IS TIGHT
    WITH NO TEARS ALONG WITH THE "US" METAL EMBLEM FIRMLY AFFIXED.
    THE PROVENANCE OF THIS PIECE IS WHEN A YOUNG MAN
    STAYING WITH MY AUNT
    FOR THE SUMMER IN ATHENS,GEORGIA
    (WAY BACK IN THE 1950'S;-}
    I WANDERED INTO A LOCAL PAWN SHOP & PURCHASED THIS BAYONET ALONG WITH
    A "FANCY KNIGHT'S SWORD" (ON REARING HORSEBACK) WITHIN IT'S METAL SCABBARD
    (I LOVED PLAYING KNIGHTS ;-)
    STILL HAVE THAT CLAN (with a Kay") CEREMONIAL PIECE IN MY COLLECTION, if U R interested...
    BTW; NO, I'M, NOT A BELIEVER IN THAT PATHETIC IDEOLOGY.
    THIS WILL BE SENT PRIORITY WITH FULL INSURANCE.
