Description
Antique French acid etched cameo glass claret jug with Gallia silver-plate mounts. Featuring a gorgeous Art Nouveau motif of periwinkle/vinca flowers, with beautiful purple and green colors against a frosted ground with ice effect texture. The silver-plated mounts compliment the design on the glass, with flowers embellished with swirls of leaves and stems. The finial is a single flower in bloom. Gallia metal marks for Christofle Manufacture de L'Alfenide , Saint Denis, Paris. The marks are a cockerel within a shield and 'GALLIA METAL', this mark was in use circa 1900-1908. Together with Manufacture de L'Alfenide mark, which is the head of a goat, used to denote silver-plate. The glass is unsigned, but most likely Legras / Mont Joye in partnership with Gallia. In overall good antique condition, no chips or cracks to the beautiful cameo glass. The claret jug stands 9 5/8" height x 5 3/4" from spout to handle.
