Description

Presented is a wonderful quality silver plated pitcher or flagon made by Rogers Smith & Co. of Meriden, Connecticut. The pitcher is done in the desirable Assyrian Head pattern which was first produced in 1887. The pitcher has a beautiful band of raised decoration around the middle depicting the heads of classical figures interspersed with fancy flowers, shell and scrolls. The top half of the pitcher is nicely engraved with flowers and leaves. A helpful eBayer has told us this is a syrup pitcher, but it obviously can function in more than one way.
The pitcher is marked on the underside with Rogers, Smith & Co., Meriden Ct., Quadruple. Meridian Britannia Company and Roger Brothers also made this exact pattern, although this piece is stamped by Rogers, Smith & Company. These companies were interrelated.
The pitcher is in used condition. There is substantial wear to the silver plating as you can see in the photographs, but the decoration is very sharp and crisp. There are no dents, no splits, no breaks, and no repairs.
The pot measures 4 inches wide across the handle and 6 3/4 inches tall.
