    Description

Offered is this antique silverplate pitcher with a hinged lid, made by Redfield & Rice of New York. The piece features a woman's head finial on the top of the lid and another woman's head on the top of the handle and flower and leaf scrollwork around the bottom of the tapered middle section. There is a collar-like spout on the inside under the lid. The bottom is marked with a patent date of Oct. 24, 1865; the company was in business only a short time, from about 1863-1872. In addition to the company mark and patent date the bottom is also marked "180", probably an item number. This is a unique find; at the time of original listing there were only a few pitchers by this manufacturer for sale on eBay, none like this.
The pitcher is approx. 7 3/4" high and about 3 3/4" across. It is in excellent condition. The plating looks almost entirely intact on the outside, with just a few tiny spots of wear. The inside has not been polished but the plating looks good under the lid and on the spout, too. The hinge works fine. There is a small monogram within a circle at the front, near the bottom of the middle section but the script lettering looks more like a design than initials to me (see photo #2).
