A very nice whistle hilt 1860 staff & field officer’s sword and scabbard, by “W.A. Raymold & Co. New York, N.Y.” which is etched on the ricasso. The sword has an extremely nice hilt, with fine blue-grey sharkskin grip with gilt twisted wire wrap. The grip has handsome gilt brass ferrules at top and bottom that are cast in laurel leaf designs. The reverse guard folds and the button is intact, although stuck. The blade is narrow and etched with a spread-winged American Eagle with Union Shield on its breast, and there are the letters “U.S.” on the other side, along with trophies of arms, floral sprays and vines. The scabbard is chromed with fine brass mounts and two rings. Dimensions: 31 inches long overall in its scabbard. The blade is 30 inches long. . Condition:Very good. The , so the guard moves freely.
